Love Parks Week: Clean-up in Eastfield Park

17 Debdale Road ,Northampton,NN3 2TR

12 Jul 2019

23:00

Celebrate the start of 'Love Parks Week' by joining our Clean-up & Litter pick in Eastfield Park (Northampton): 10.00 am to 12 noon on Saturday, 13th July. We will concentrate on wooded areas and around the Lake, areas often overlooked by contracted litter pickers. Tools and protective gloves provided. Children welcome if accompanied by a responsible adult. Meet just inside the Skiddaw Walk entrance to the Park. See us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/events/3102098063148825/. A smaller group than usual helped clean up the Park at the start of 'Love Parks Week': just ten adults and four children plus Clayton, a Park Ranger, who helped us set up and pack away, and one other FoEP member who did an hour's litter picking on the Friday. Together, this represents over 21 hours of community effort (>16 adult hours and >5 child hours).

We collected 8 sacks of non-recyclable materials (black) and 5 sacks of mainly bottles and cans for potential recycling (white) plus the inevitable shopping trolley! As usual, the sacks were piled up at the Skiddaw Walk entrance for collection by Veolia on Monday..

Whitehead Wombles
Whitehead Wombles are a small group of people from the town of Whitehead who got fed up looking at the amount of litter on our streets and hedgerows and decided to do something about it. We only have a few members but we are committed to keeping the level of litter in the town to a minimum and hope that people will see us and think twice about dropping their litter. We are supplied with bags, gloves and pickers by our local council and last Oct we won an award for our coastal care work. Our aim is to educate people in the detrimental effects of littering and to work with as many groups within the town to co ordinate our efforts. We had a community clean up on Sunday 18th Sept 2011as part of the national Beach watch Weekend and received support of local groups and churches so for one day at least we had a litter free town. We lifted over 30 bags and had forty people of all ages turn out to help. This proved so successful that many of those involved wanted to run it on a quarterly basis so we'll see what we can do If anyone wants to set up a group and needs advice then contact us or follow our progress at the Brighter Whitehead site.

Middlewich Clean Team
The Middlewich Clean Team was set up with the basic intention of keeping our town litter free. However we now do much more as we have an education programme working in all of our schools and pre-school groups and have carried out a number of environmental projects. We have a small committee and well over 100 members. Litter picking is undertaken by all members, either by joining a group litter pick or simply by keeping an area litter free. We have also worked with Government Departments on controlling ant-social behaviour and very recently, several of our members qualified as Community Crime Fighters and have been involved in the restorative justice system. We help set up other Clean Teams nationally and are the Mother Clean Team to some of the other organisations included on this site.

The Green Army
The Green Army has been founded to tackle litter along rural routes around the villages of Harrold, Odell and Carlton in Bedfordshire. Roadside verges leading in and out of these villages will be targeted in a bid to keep our surrounding countryside clean and beautiful, and to provide safe habitats for local wildlife. Any public footpaths or bridleways will also be freed of litter as the need arises. If you are a local resident interested in joining this group please get in touch!
