Litter takes away the beauty of our neighborhoods and harms our environment and wildlife. This year we want a Litter Free 2023. You are invited to take part in our collective anti-littering campaign, which will raise awareness about the importance of keeping our streets, parks, and public spaces clean, and hopefully help you to encourage your own community to get involved!

We’ll be suggesting ideas for how everyone can do their part by participating in local clean-up events. Together, we can make a difference and create a cleaner, healthier community for all.

Ways to get involved

  1. Lead by example: run a litter-pick in your own community and encourage others to join you.
  1. Use social media: Share pictures and stories of your litter-picking efforts on social media to inspire others to do the same.
  1. Partner with local organisations: Reach out to local organisations to collaborate on a litter-picking event.
  1. Make it fun: turn litter picking into a game or challenge with friends and family and make it an enjoyable activity.

Ideas for litter-picking activities

  • A scavenger hunt where participants have to collect a list of items, such as recyclable materials or specific types of rubbish. You could give a prize to the winner!
  • A competition between teams to see who can collect the most amount of litter in a designated area within a certain time frame.
  • A game where participants have to identify different types of trash, such as plastic bottles or cigarette butts, and sort them into the correct recycling bin.
  •  A nature-themed scavenger hunt where participants have to find and photograph specific types of plants, flowers, birds, or insects found after removing litter.
  •  A historical scavenger hunt where participants have to find the oldest piece of litter.
  •  A frosty litter-picking photograph competition (frozen lakes, puddles, spiderwebs) - do share your pics with us!
  •  You may already have your own ideas for engaging people and having fun whilst litter-picking. Please share them with us, we’d love to know what they are :-)
