We started at Laindon Community Centre and picked along the High Road, around the station then up into Hatterhill and onto the Five Links Estate to finish the job we started on our last pick, two weeks ago. We hadn’t managed to finish the job last time despite collecting 30 bags of litter. This week we collected 38 bags weighing about 152kg together with 20 fly-tipped N2O cylinders and quantities of metal, wood, furniture and concrete weighing about 130kg. A good job jobbed! Afterwards it was back to LCC for coffee and rock cakes, this time kindly made by Amanda and enjoyed by us all 👏

03 August 2025

We picked today from Laindon Community Centre, along Laindon Link, Begonia Drive, Elizabeth Way and through the maze of the Five Links Estate back to LCC for coffee & rock cakes. We picked 30 bags of litter (weighing about 150kg) and pulled loads of wooden boards (mostly broken down flat pack units), plastic and metal (together weighing about 60kg) from the hedgerows, bushes and open spaces. Afterwards I collected the bags we'd left dotted around the estate and left them in two locations for collection. Well done to the gentleman on Laindon Link who challenged me as he suspected I was fly-tipping but who then thanked us once I explained where the bags came from. 👍 A very worthwhile pick. 👏👏👏

We started at The Paddocks open space intending to clear there and the Pound Lane / Kathleen Ferrier Crescent area but as we left the park and started in Pound Lane we found a huge amount of litter in the bushes as well as some long-term fly-tipping. Young Nola joined us for her first pick and said she really enjoyed it :-)

We picked around the Laindon Community Centre today and then down High Road, Laindon to the station, concentrating on the hedgerows and the steps leading down from either side of the railway bridge to the industrial estate; which were a mess! Afterwards teas & coffees provided by LCC for the pickers and home made rock cakes by my wife, Karen :-) In addition to the bags (which weighed about 60kgs) we collected loose wood, metal & plastic weighing about 15kgs, 81 glass bottles & jars, 2 nitrous oxide cylinders and 38 vapes..

We picked Church Hill, Laindon but having gone into the woods at the side of the road we then spent 2.5 hours clearing a 90sq metre area of the woods that was full of litter that had accumulated over years and had obviously been fly-tipped. In total about 124kg of rubbish collected.
