We've been cleaning up litter around Bricket Wood, Chiswell Green and Park Street since 2009; originally we were three groups of volunteers working together but we've recently combined forces to make even more impact and help get our message across. In total, we've picked up more than 3,500 bags of litter since we started.
Our mission is to help make the local environment a nicer place to be for everyone and get some exercise while we're at it; if this sounds like something you'd be interested in then please get in touch, we'd love to hear from you.
We pick all year round although there's more activity in the Spring and Summer when we organise events as often as every 6-8 weeks. If you see us out there feel free to say 'Hello'. In the colder months, we're still out there but a little less often.
We also support volunteers who prefer to pick the to their own schedule and can provide all the necessary equipment.

🌼 The Parish Pickers Spring into Action! 🌼 We’re proud to share that The Parish Pickers have collected a whopping 131 bags of litter across Park Street, Chiswell Green, and Bricket Wood as part of the Great British Spring Clean! 💪🌍 In addition to the litter, we also removed 27 large containers of nitrous oxide and reported several fly tips to the council. 🚯📦 Every little bit helps to keep our beautiful communities clean, safe, and green. Litter picking is not only great for the environment, but it’s also a fantastic way to contribute towards your Duke of Edinburgh Award. If you’re working on your DofE or simply want to make a difference, we’d love to have you join us! 🌿👟 We’re always keen to welcome new volunteers – whether you're a solo picker, family, or group, there’s a hi-vis vest and litter picker with your name on it! 📩 Message us to get involved – let’s keep our parish beautiful together! 💚 #GreatBritishSpringClean #CommunitySpirit #DofE #LitterHeroes #KeepBritainTidy #LoveWhereYouLive #volunteeringmatters Helping nature thrive in '25

The first litter pick of 2025 was something of a surprise; across Bricket Wood, Chiswell Green and Park Street our amazing volunteers have collected 159 sacks of litter. It's only been ten weeks since our last pick, where is it all coming from? There's so much that we've not yet been able to pick on some of the local hotspots like Lye Lane, Noke Lane and part of Tippendell Lane. On a more positive note, half of the litter we've gathered is recyclable; mostly glass bottles, aluminium cans and some plastic bottles. Huge thanks to the volunteers on Old Watford Road with ten bags, assorted car parts, whoppers and four car tyres. Thanks also to the volunteers who continue to collect as Lone Rangers between the larger community picks. Please get in touch if you'd like to help tackle the growing problem of litter; you can join our organised events or pick when ever suits you and we can supply all the equipment you'll need. Keep us in mind of you or someone you know is working towards a Duke of Edinburgh award, litter picking is a great way to do this. Our next major event will be the Great British Spring Clean in March/April, look out for more details.

Please contact us if you'd like to help out, we'll provide everything you'll need such as pickers, hoops, bags and gloves. Please think of us if you know someone who you think might like to get involved; litter picking is a great way to work on a Duke of Edinburgh award for example. You can get in touch here on Facebook or via email: John: bricketwoodpickers@gmail.com Dennis: park_street_pickers@yahoo.co.uk or chisgreenpickers@gmail.com Dennis and Sean Litter no more in '24 --------------------- Update ---------------------- Our most recent litter pick was a big success, Bricket Wood collected 21 sacks of litter, Chiswell Green gathered 24 sacks and Park Street amassed 30 sacks. That's 75 in total which is a great result and makes our local area a much nicer place to be. We also gathered 22 large nitrous oxide containers. Many thanks to everyone who participated and the locals who stopped to offer encouragement, it's much appreciated. Thanks also to Veolia for removing everything we've collected. Please get in touch if you'd like to get involved with litter picking; if you're working towards a Duke of Edinburgh award or know someone who is, then litter picking is a great way of volunteering. World Cleanup Day was a great success, at the time of writing we've counted over 26 bags of litter from Park Street, Bricket Wood and Chiswell Green. On top of that we blitzed Lye Lane and gathered up another 24 bags of litter and loads of large bottles of nitrous oxide. Many thanks to everyone involved and everyone who stopped to thank us for our efforts. A special thank you to the group of six volunteers from a private company who wanted to get involved, we really appreciated the help. Please get in touch if you'd like to get involved, we'd love to hear from you. Litter picking is a great way to do something for the environment for businesses and individuals. Dennis and Sean. Our Susfest litter pick in Park Street resulted in at least 22 bags being collected and left at the recreation ground. We're expecting figures from Bricket Wood and Chiswell green shortly. We also did a special check for vapes and found quite a few; we also reported numerous fly tips around the village which the council should clear up soon. If you're ever looking to have some rubbish removed, please make sure you use a licensed operator. Update The results are in and we've collected 28 bags in Park Street, 16 in Chiswell Green and 27 in Bricket Wood giving a grand total of 71 bags of litter. We also reported loads of incidents of fly tips, I don't know what's going on at the moment but fly tipping is a big problem in the area right now. We had some challenges on this pick with the lack of grass cutting on the verges, I know it's good for environment but it makes it hard to find the litter so our bag count was a little less than we'd usually expect. A massive thank you to all who pitched in and to everyone who offered words of support or refreshments, it's much appreciated. If you have any queries regarding our work or would like to get involved, we'd love to hear from you. Thanks, Dennis & Sean park_street_pickers@yahoo.co.uk Consigning litter to the waste bin

Do you ever find yourself out for a nice walk only to come across litter all over the place or a fly tip? it's easy to think 'someone should do something about that' and walk on isn't it? Well why not be that someone and do something about it? The weekend of 23rd and 24th of March is the Great British Spring Clean and we'll be out trying to make Park Street a nicer place to live for everyone. We're always looking for volunteers so if you fancy some exercise and want to make a difference then get in touch. We can provide you with all the equipment and advice you'll need to get started. Dennis and Sean Litter No More in '24 Update This weekend all over Park Street, Bricket Wood and Chiswell Green you might have noticed piles of rubbish sacks. Don't be alarmed, it's not a tsunami of fly-tipping, it's the efforts of a hand-full of #LitterHeroes who have worked really hard to make our locality a cleaner place and collected nearly 100 bags of litter. If you see them out and about, a “thumbs up” or a “well done” would be nice. Some of our volunteers are litter picking as part of the Duke of Edinburgh scheme, if you hear of anyone looking to complete this then please keep us in mind. Dennis and Sean Litter no more in '24

Hi #Litter Heroes All of you are true heroes, coping with a chilly breeze and masses of wet litter and leaves this weekend. In Park Street, you collected 53 bags, 2 wheel-trims, a Harperbury Park sign, 18 whoppers (large N20 canisters) and a wheel hub in a white bin (to the tune of 12 days of Christmas). Chiswell Green Pickers added 16 bags, whilst Bricket Wood Pickers are still out there with at least 36 bags and counting. Of course we shouldn't be entirely gleeful, we would not have achieved this without the careless people who cause all the litter in our village. A big concern currently in the Parish, and the City, is the abuse of litter bins by residents who use them as their own domestic rubbish bin. Do let us know if you actually see anyone using the SADC bins regularly, giving as much information as possible please. Our next pick is the Great British Spring Clean in Mid-March and we'll let you know details nearer the date. Regards Dennis and Sean Consigning litter to the waste bin

Hi All just a quick update on the litter picking that we did over the weekend; many thanks to everyone who took part and much appreciation for Liz from Radlett who stepped in at short notice to complete a vacant Litter Walk and collected five bags. In total, we've collected 100 bags of litter from the roads, parks and verges of Park Street, Bricket Wood and Chiswell Green, this picture shows just some of the bags. I'm not sure how a Christmas tree ends up being left at the road side in October but our amazing volunteers have sorted it out It was good to see so many people supporting the anti-RFT demonstration on Saturday afternoon as well. Please get in touch if you'd like to get involved with litter picking around the local area, we can always use more help. Dennis and Sean Litter free in '23

Hi #LitterHeroes, The Great British Spring Clean is almost upon us! This is your chance to make a difference and The Parish Pickers have pledged to rid our parish of at least one hundred bags of litter during the GBSC campaign. Officially the campaign runs from 17th March to 2nd April, but we'll be focussing our efforts between Friday 24th and Sunday 26th March. This year we will be using the 2023 GBSC litter bag which Veolia have agreed to be used for landfill items only; recyclables go in the orange bags as usual. If you'd like to get involved please contact us, we can help with advice on where to pick and we can help with any equipment you might need. Litter free for '23! Dennis and Sean

The Parish Pickers (including Park Street Pickers) are filling the vacant time before The Great British Spring Clean (GBSC) in March by having a February Freshen-Up during 18-20th of the month. After all this January frost and fog, let’s try and brighten up our village, have a bit of exercise and get rid of roadway rubbish shall we?
