The Essex Freemasons Community Hub at Station Approach, Wickford is one of the new hubs set-up by CleanupUK in Basildon. Today I met with five Essex Freemasons (Dave Barton, John Hoeffler, Steve Bruyel, Sam Connor and Craig Noler) and we carried out the inaugural pick for this hub. It was a great morning supporting CleanupUK and the Essex Provincial Community Engagement Team. We picked in Southend Road (Shotgate) and where it continues into Old London Road (Rawreth). In just 500m of roadside we found not only plenty of surface litter, but years’ worth buried deep in the thorny hedgerows. We couldn’t clear everything in the time we had, but we still managed to collect: 🟢 45 bags of rubbish (around 180kg) 🟢 Two broken-open safes, a damaged electronic till, plus assorted wood, metal and concrete (around another 100kg) 🟢 12 nitrous oxide cylinders from the bushes (which we added to the 12 already left there that morning by a local Wickford Womble; 52kg total). A really worthwhile morning. 👏♻️
