GPC Hub is part of the Gloucester Park Community Group, a grassroots volunteer collective caring for the park and its green spaces. As a Clean Up UK hub, our focus is on reducing litter and encouraging everyone to take pride in our shared environment.
We organise regular litter picks, support local volunteers with equipment, and work alongside community members, families, and groups who want to make a positive difference. Whether you can spare a little time or a lot, you’ll always be welcome to join us in keeping Gloucester Park safe, clean, and enjoyable for all.

On Saturday, Zelda headed out on a solo litter pick in Gloucester Park and collected 10 bags of rubbish and one abandoned trolley. Solo litter picking is a great way to spend some time outdoors, clear your mind, and make a visible difference to your local environment. Every small action helps keep our park clean and welcoming for everyone. If you would like to borrow litter picking equipment let us know and we can help.

Cold, wet… but unstoppable! 💪🌿 Today the Gloucester Park Community Hub organised the first of many picks they have planned for 2026. Zelda, Ben & Jenny (GPCG) were joined by Paul Keegan and Lloyd Carter (Laindon Wombles), Paul Reeves (CleanupUK (Basildon) and newbies Nicole Rogers, Sammi Gieldman and her children Lily (7) & Jack (4) and Ricci Jones and her slightly older daughter Kaitlin and Amanda Bagshaw. 🌳 Their haul: • 15 bags of rubbish (around 60kg) • 2 full recycling bags containing around 200 aluminium cans & plastic bottles ♻️ Despite the insidious cold rain soaking everyone the youngsters were absolute stars ⭐ and a couple of hot chocolates at the Sporting Village afterwards soon warmed everyone up — and if Lily has anything to do with it… “they will be back!” 😊 Picking in the cold & rain isn’t everyone’s idea of a relaxing Sunday so a big thank you to every volunteer who gave up their time today. Together you are making a real difference in our community. If you’d like to get involved next time, come and join us — many hands really do make light work 💚

On Sunday 02/11/2025 Basildon Round Table put on the annual Basildon Bonfire Night Fireworks Display in Gloucester Park but this year had asked for help to clear up the litter left behind by the visitors to that display. Accordingly, on Monday 03/11/2025, Paul Reeves, Amanda King, Denise Mattey, Diane Hurley, Jean Cornell, Karen Lee, Kathy Carpenter, Matthew Forbes, and Vic Cornell (members of the Laindon Wombles) joined with David Lyme and Zelda Jeffers (members of the Gloucester Park Community Group and CleanupUK’s Gloucester Park Community Hub) to pick a chunk of the park. A special welcome to Denise who joined us for her first group pick today. The Round Table had already emptied all the bins that had been put out for the event and had filled a large skip but we collected a further 30 bags of loose litter weighing about 120kgs and helped make a noticeable difference to the park. Thank you all!

Those taking part in the pick were: Sami, Zelda & Ben (members of the GPCG), myself, Diane, Kathy & Sally (members of Laindon Wombles) and three novice pickers (Jas, Cindee and their three young girls); who seemed to have a great time of it. We picked 30 bags of litter from the western side of Gloucester Park and around the fishing and (Barratt?) lakes. The litter weighed approximately 120kg, which is a lot of litter that cannot now find its way into the water. We also collected 16 nitrous oxide cylinders, a metal bar, an old fold-up chair, an umbrella, an ASDA trolley and two discarded vapes.
