After a Parkrun in Northlands Park Karen & Linda picked the park and the woodlands in Margaret's Way. 13 purple sacks filled, 2 shopping trolleys reported, a large builders sack of sand, a traffic cone, a dumb-bell, carpet, a lid from a washing machine, a picture frame and a bucket together with some toddlers items including a booster seat and a padded onesie with attached mittens and 2 primary school satchels. A Robin that stopped by to inspect their work seemed very happy to see the woods cleared. :-)

This morning Karen Lee was joined by Linda Mander for a park run in Northlands Park. Afterwards they picked the car park area and the surrounding woods and as well as 15 bags of litter weighing about 60kg they also collected an iron, empty paint tins, brushes & trays, an oven shelf, several roof tiles, a fishing rod and a child's toy. 👏👏

There are some wonderful people who love the areas where they live so much, not only do they enjoy using them, but they help keep them clean and tidy. Thank you Karen Lee (Laindon Wombles) -an absolute star! She returned to Northlands Park to check for rubbish at the Ashlyn's car park entrance to the park as it doesn’t get as much attention as it probably deserves but it is blighted with dumped rubbish. On this occasion she collected 2 bags of rubbish weighing about 10kg and 2 nitrous oxide cylinders and a spent fire extinguisher. Thank you Karen!

A very warm welcome to the Northlands Park Community Cleanup Hub in #basildon! 💚 Thanks to the Langdon Hill Wombles and the Laindon Wombles for helping launch the Northlands Park Community Hub with the hub’s first pick on 21/09/2025. We can loan free litter-picking equipment to anyone who wants to make a difference in & around the Northlands Park/ Felmores area. Just contact Shenaugh at shensurr@gmail.com. The small band of volunteers who joined me (Shenaugh) were Sharon McArdell Hatton (Langdon Hills Wombles) and Paul Reeves, Amanda King and Karen Lee (Laindon Wombles). We picked in and around the park collecting 19 bags of litter weighing about 76kg as well as 4 nitrous oxide cylinders and some other metal, a Sholley trolley full of clothes and discarded bedding weighing about 60kg and reported that and a leaking container of used engine oil that had been dumped in the small car park in Ashlyns. That’s 136kg of rubbish that cannot now find its way into our beautiful lakes!! Ten of those bags were rubbish cleared from the banks of the culvert that runs under Felmores and into the Park where we also salvaged a shopping trolley, shopping basket and a vacuum cleaner and a lot of litter from the water. As great as it is to get so much, it shouldn't really exist folks. There are plenty of bins around the area or take it home or use a bag to dispose of properly.
