A partnership that brings together shared values to deliver impact

In 2023, CleanupUK partnered with The Barratt Foundation, the charitable arm of Barratt Developments PLC. The Foundation has a focus on helping communities to thrive and this is why the Foundation chose to partner with CleanupUK, to help improve communities, benefitting both the environment and local residents.

Tackling litter hands on - making a tangible difference across the UK

As a pivotal component of this collaboration, Barratt Developments PLC rallied its extensive network, comprising 32 Divisions and over 5,000 employees, to actively participate in CleanupUK initiatives. The goal was to significantly amplify the impact of litter-picking and community tidying efforts in the areas where Barratt operates. CleanupUK, in turn, equipped these teams with the necessary tools, equipment and unwavering support to organise and execute litter picking initiatives independently.

We're proud to be partnered with CleanupUK

Mark Rolfe, Chair of The Barratt Foundation, expressed pride in the partnership, highlighting CleanupUK's invaluable role in facilitating community cleanups. Mark said “We’re proud to be partnering with CleanupUK, who do so much good helping groups to tidy up their local area by providing all the equipment and advice that is needed for litter-picking. Cleaner communities benefit everyone, not just us but nature and wildlife too.”

We asked Sonal Henderson, The Barratt Foundation’s Partnerships & Projects Manager, how this collaboration has benefitted Barratt Developments PLC employees and the communities in which it operates. Sonal said:

The partnership has been a great opportunity to boost employee volunteering

The partnership has increased employee volunteering at Barratt Developments and fostered employee engagement. It has enabled Barratt Divisions to make a tangible difference in the communities in which they build, work and live by making them cleaner and safer. It has also been great for employee wellbeing, getting colleagues out into the fresh air to create a cleaner and greener environment, whilst forming connections with each other, nature and the community".

Not only are Barratt Developments PLC’s team members ambassadors for promoting behavioural change regarding litter but The Barratt Foundation generously donated a transformative £100,000 to support CleanupUK to continue its vital work setting up litter-picking hubs in areas of deprivation.

CleanupUK aims to operate in the 100 most deprived local authority areas in England and The Barratt Foundation is helping us well along the way to achieve this.
