If it’s not on social media, did it even happen?

We have a lot of social media channels that we use to spread the word about litter picking and, in this guide, we’ll give you our tips on how to join in on the conversation online and promote your own group.

Join the litter picking conversation

We rely a lot on social media these days to share our ideas and achievements.
If you're on Facebook, head to our 1,500 people strong litter picking group which is a space for you to celebrate your activities, ask people for advice, and just have a chat.

We also have a host of other channels that we use to share the amazing activities of litter picking groups across the UK. Tag us in your pictures or upcoming events and we'll share them across our socials for you:

Here are some example posts you can use to promote your group on social media.

Posters and Flyers

Everyone loves a poster! They're a great way to catch someone's eye and are a quick and easy way to let people know what's happening.

We have a range of posters that you can use for your litter picking events. Send us an email and we'll get you sorted. Once you have your posters, you can get them printed for a local noticeboard or community centre, if your posters are time sensitive, remember to take them down after your event – you don’t want to create more litter!

Write a blog for us!

Many websites offer the chance to write a blog for them. If you fancy contributing to the CleanupUK blog, pop over to our news section and see what’s being said. We'd love to showcase your story too!

Local media

When promoting your litter picking it’s also worth making the most of local radio, community newspapers or magazines and regional television to promote your anti-litter message and activities. Here are some suggestions from us:

Film and podcast

Short videos illustrating the litter problems you encounter can send a powerful message and might get used on local or regional news channels when they’re covering environmental issues. You can create these on a mobile phone and upload them onto YouTube and your other social media channels to create engaging content.

Podcasts are a widespread and popular way to tell your story. Maybe just have a chat about litter with a friend, how you got started, some funny incident that’s happened whilst litter-picking, strange items you’ve found are all good topics for a podcast.

Have questions?

If you have any questions or need some help promoting your litter picking activities, send us an email and we'll be happy to help.
