Extremely littered highway got you down?

Don’t worry about it, grab some tea and make a phone call.

Litter on National Highways

In England, National Highways is responsible for maintaining and clearing litter on motorways and a few trunk roads, some 4,300 miles in all.  You and I, or volunteers in general, can’t clean these roads for safety reasons but you can report litter to National Highways’ Customer Contact Centre on 0300 123 5000 or report the litter via their website

Not sure if the road is actually managed by the National Highways?

You’re not alone! You can find out if a particular road is managed by National Highways on their website.

The ‘A’ -Z of all other roads

  • London roads are managed by Transport for London.
  • Scottish roads are managed by Transport Scotland.
  • Welsh roads are managed by the Welsh Government.
  • Northern Ireland roads are managed by DfI Roads
