Nigel Biggar is the Regius Professor of Moral and Pastoral Theology at the University of Oxford, director of the McDonald Centre for Theology, Ethics, and Public Life, and a Canon of Christ Church Cathedral in Oxford.

He has published academic tomes on the ethics of nationalism, war, forgiveness, and assisted suicide. And he has written on the possibility of a Truth and Reconciliation Commission for Northern Ireland in the Irish Times, on the Iraq war in the Financial Times, on Scottish independence in Standpoint magazine, on the ethics of Trident in The Scottish Review, and on the rights and wrongs of colonialism in The Times.

He considers himself privileged to have been born in rural southwest Scotland, where he learned at a very early age to love the landscape of Britain in all its wonderful variety. For that reason, he has long hated litter for several reasons, including its impact on nature. Nigel is a keen litter picker and supports organisations that help keep the UK litter-free.
