Away With Litter 8

17 Debdale Road ,Northampton,NN3 2TR

18 Nov 2012

00:00

2.00-3.30pm - Meet at Booth Lane entrance to Eastfield Park. Throughout October and November, 2012, Friends of Eastfield Park (FoEP) are organising litter picking activities in and around Eastfield Park on a weekly basis. Litter picking equipment / protective gloves provided. No need to stay for the whole time. Activity will only be cancelled if the weather is very bad! (Phone 07910161275 on day to check) Five people joined in the litter-picking on 18th November, two of whom came along for the first time. Six bags of litter were removed from the park and the streets near the Booth Lane entrance and more from the Grange Road area. The situation was particularly bad along Booth Lane North between Kendal Close and the entrance to Northampton College.

This area had been cleared of litter less than four weeks earlier but two full sacks were collected from about 130m of footpath and verge on just one side of the road! It would appear that students are the main offenders and we are trying to take our anti-litter message into the educational establishments along Booth Lane. The Chair of FoEP has taken part in an assembly at Boothville Primary School, and Northampton College has agreed to take part in our anti-litter poster competition but, so far, we have not had any reply to our letters and emails to Weston Favell Academy..

South Common Litter Picking Crew
I set up the group on realizing there were areas of Lincoln's South Common where litter had been accumulating for years. We have managed to get on top of this situation and are now kept busy due to litter being left around the ponds and viewpoints around the common throughout the year . Since I started picking it I've seen weasels fighting, dear, buzzards and kestrel, herron, partridge and pheasants which, for me, makes it one of the most enjoyable places to pick in Lincoln.
