Christmas Clean up! (Themed)

St. Albans,AL1 2PB

03 Dec 2017

00:00

Lets get tidy for Christmas and make sure we put on our best for Santa! You will also get a festive treat for helping out! Start Time: 12:15 for a 12:30 Start until 14:30 This will be our themed event to get spic and span for the festive season. Wear something jolly and bright and come and help litter pick our community! Only a limited number of the following will be provided to those without the right equipment but we strongly urge you to go and purchase a Hi-Vis jacket and gloves ahead of time. If you can bring any of your own equipment this will help a lot: Good Gloves Hi-Vis Jacket Litter picker Bin Liners Any first aid supplies you may need while out A drink to keep hydrated Anything else you see fit for litter picking Comfy shoes and clothing is highly recommended, please dress for the weather.

Please ensure your own safety and others while we are out, if you require insurance, please arrange this yourself but the rules of common sense and being safe apply; don't pick up anything suspicious, sharp, dangerous or heavy and report anything suspicious to local authorities. Please let the event co-coordinator know during or at the end of the event if you have found anything that will need reporting. A hand out will also be given with details on what and who to report waste to. Hope to see you there! If you have any questions, please email cleanupsopwell@outlook.com If you can't make it on the day but would still like to help out by donating, you can make donations in bin liners, litter pickers, hi-vis jackets, gloves or anything else by getting in contact at the email address provided. Thank you! We had a good turnout despite the weather, small bit of rain but that didn't stop us. We collected 12 bags of waste in total, 4 of which were recyclables. This was a good outcome for our last pick of the year with a total of 31 bags for the end of 2017! .

Village Action Litter Busters
We are part of the Frampton Cotterell and Coalpit Heath Village Action initiative. We aim to co-ordinate the efforts of local people in promoting awareness of the problem of litter; improving attitudes; and taking part in monthly organised litter picking, with the aim of keeping our villages pleasant and pretty. We know that many residents look after the roadsides and paths adjacent to their own homes and wish to encourage this. Some of our members carry chalk to mark dog fouling on pavements, to help people avoid stepping in it and to tell irresponsible dog owners that they should be clearing up after their pet. Litter picking can be very rewarding, and is an opportunity to get out and make new contacts in the village. Please get in touch if you can help in any way, however small. Please email us if there is any particular area in the village over which you have concerns about litter. In 2012 Nisa - Village Roots in Woodend Road gave us some funds and we have bought some hi-viz vests with 'Volunteer - Village Action Litter Busters' printed on them. We are grateful for their continuing support. South Glos Council support us with sacks, picker sticks and bag hoops. See Upcoming Events for dates and meeting points for monthly litter picks. Please see our gallery below for some pictures of our members, including two younger litter busters!

Falkland Road Litter Pickers
We are taking litter picking in to our own hands. We are fed up with plastic bags and rubbish littering our streets, blowing in to our gardens and spoiling our pavements. We are proud of where we live and want to encourage others to care for our streets as we do. Our vision is for a clean environment for our families and friends. We are an open group and welcome anyone to join.

Bute Wombles
We are a small group of Volunteers passionate about keeping our Town and Country clean. We get out and about most days collecting rubbish from our hedgerows, parks and walks. We are happy to work with other local groups and organisations including educational talks and bringing awareness to this problem we have in our Towns and Country. Must of us within the group have mental health problems and or unseen disabilities and discovered walking and hiking helps with our day to day depression and anxiety and by collecting rubbish on our walks also gives us purpose and feelings of achievement. Chailey Litter Pickers
Chailey Litter PIckers have now been active for over a year, having formed in April 2016. We meet as a group monthly, to pick as wide an area as we can in one go. Group members also pick around their own area between group events. Some equipment is always available for group events and I can help people to purchase their own equipment if they would like to do so - gloves, grabbers, bag hoops. We will happily also travel to pick in other areas to help out on group events or to pick in areas where a particular need has been brought to our attention.

Ravenfield Rubbish Rascals
We have 26 active litter pickers each one of whom takes responsibility for a stretch of road or an area of green space. We meet occasionally to review tactics and to swop ideas. We have a massive litter pick once a year to shift an area of accumulated rubbish. We have good relations with the Parish Council and the local authority who are great at clearing flytipping when we inform them.

Otterford Parish Litter Pick
Otterford Parish Litter Pick aims to remove as much litter (and fly-tipped items) as possible from the roads and lanes in the parish - which is located in the beautiful Blackdown Hills AONB on the Somerset/Devon border. We now hold three Litter Picks annually - in March, July and November. After sorting,as much litter as possible is recycled: to date we have recycled 7,446 drinks cans, 6,041 plastic bottles, 1,216 glass bottles/jars, and lots of miscellaneous metal. Since our 17th Pick in March 2020 we have also been recycling plastic food containers and lids, paper and cardboard, and aluminium foil. We are grateful to Whitbread Plc (from when they owned Costa Coffee) and Litteraction for donating equipment and clothing: to Somerset West & Taunton District Council (and their contractor idVerde) for providing litter sacks for each Pick and now collecting the rubbish afterwards; and to Somerset Waste Partnership for donating vests, gloves and sacks.
