Cronton Clean-Up

38 Wheatfield Road,,Cronton,Widnes,WA8 5BU

20 May 2010

23:00

Cronton Pathways Project has organised an area clean-up day in conjunction with The Highways Agency, The Environment Agency, BTCV and local volunteers. All welcome. Meet at Holy Family Car Park 10.30. a.m. Friday 21st May 2010 CRONTON CLEAN-UP On Friday May 21st the second phase of this year's Cronton Spring Clean took place in and around the village and many thanks are due to all those who took part. Our aim once again was to demonstrate that a partnership between local volunteers and a wide variety of agencies who have an involvement in the Cronton area could make a difference to our environment. The Environment Agency (pic 1) who have a responsibility for the streams that flow through our area provided a team of six men who cleared the section of Dog Clog Brook between Iver Close and Hall Lane, removing litter and clearing overgrown foliage.

The Highways Agency (pic 2) carried out an extensive litter clearance along the M62 grass verges between the slip-road at Rainhill Stoops and Foxes Bank Bridge. These are areas that can not be 'litter-picked' by the general public for obvious safety reasons and we are extremely grateful to the Environment Agency and the Highways Agency for backing our Cronton campaign with practical help. Sadly, the battle against litter along our motorways and particularly at junctions and slip-roads, is an ongoing problem because of the number of people who simply empty their rubbish from their cars and wagons. Some of our team of volunteers including Cronton's Community Police Officer (pic 3), tackled the 'safe side' of the motorway fence alongside the footpaths to the north of Pex Hill. In the village itself, our work was supported by the Knowsley Council Pride Team, leaving our streets virtually clear of litter by the end of the day whilst other volunteers tackled parts of Sandy Lane, Penny Lane and Cronton Pasture. We must not however be complacent. Further 'Clean Up Days' are planned and there are still parts of our countryside and roads network that remain regularly blighted by unsightly litter. Your support is desperately needed and if you are able to give a little of your time to working with us to keep Cronton and its surrounding countryside cleaner and litter-free it would help provide a better environment for us all. If you would like to get involved in future 'clean-up' activities please contact us by e-mail: cronton.news@yahoo.co.uk or leave a message via the website: www.cronton.org . To everyone who gave their time and effort supporting the clean-up - THANK YOU!.

DORSET DEVILS
Dorset Devils are a group of Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole and beyond residents who volunteer their free time to clear litter from where they live as well as nearby parks and our beautiful beaches. We each look after our own patch and hope to encourage others to manage their own litter. Our voluntary group started in 2013 and we now have 836 + like minded residents onboard and still growing. We want Dorset to be as litter free as possible but that means everyone needs to play their part for this to happen. Fresh air, gentle exercise guaranteed and some equipment available. Do as much or as little picking as you like and choose the time and place suitable for you, eIther on your own, with someone else or with Dorset Devils living nearby. Our USP is solo or family/friends litter picking rather than group organised events or with the public. You are welcome to join us and then you can look after your own patch, wherever and whenever it suits you. Always your choice how long you ‘devil’ around. Help make a difference where you live, play and relax. Bournemouth Borough Council and Bournemouth University fully support us with equipment and encouragement. We link up with local environmental organisations including Wimborne War on Waste, Southbourne Waste Busters and we are part of Litter Free Dorset- land, coast & sea. We are active within the community and get involved in a variety of community initiatives including activities with primary school children and scout packs. We are more than just litter pickers as we hope to raise awareness and engage, wherever possible. Follow us on DD Facebook, Twitter and interact through our brand new website. dorsetdevils.org N.B. The picker uppers
Starting from a group of two, and hoping to grow, the mantra is 'if it's being dropped, then it needs picking up' ...we are going to fulfil this task, and hope this encourages less dropping, and more picking! If you see rubbish, don't tell us, pick it up yourself!

Keep Stoke Tidy
Welcome to the Keep Stoke Tidy group. We are a small group of volunteers with an increasing concern about the litter across the city. It seems difficult to walk more than a few yards lately without coming across at least one discarded face mask, food wrapper or empty plastic bottle. Rather than choose to live with this we have decided to improve the situation by making a city-wide litter-picking network that we are calling ‘Keep Stoke Tidy’. Our aim is to make sure that every area of this wonderful city has an active litter picking group and through the wonder of social media we would like to support those groups in advertising litter picking events. For those areas that don’t have a litter picking group it would be great to see new ones start up. Throughout the year each group will continue to have their usual local litter picking days but with a larger network it would be brilliant to think that each month of the year we could vote for an area to focus on. We could then arrange an event with a larger group of volunteers, with as many people as possible from all of the other groups coming to work together to focus on that area. We will be arranging events throughout the coming year and posting them on here as well as on our facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/groups/1101046337300192 If you are arranging an event in Stoke-on-Trent and would like more pickers please get in touch.
