Otterford Parish Litter Pick 14

.. We pick in all weathers! A year ago it was snowing as we picked; during our last Pick in November 2018 the heavy mist just about cleared by the time we started. Today - in one of the highest areas of the Blackdown Hills (and of Somerset), we picked in very strong winds. But our pickers remain undaunted, we had 23 (plus a base team of 2) 'on duty'. Again we picked most, but not quite all, of the Parish - collecting a total of 46 sacks of litter, plus miscellaneous items. Nothing spectacular was collected this time but our haul did include a man's suit, a bag of clothes, a pair of lady's boots and a baby's plastic potty. Oh, and - of course - two hub caps. We also picked up another 34, mostly large, plastic milk cartons – not as many as last time but still far from acceptable. After the complaint following the last Pick we were told the cartons were seen dropping from Devon lorries.

Maybe near the county boundary, but unlikely further along the B3170! So – complaints to both Somerset Waste Partnership and East Devon District Council this time. As ever after the Pick back to the village hall for the traditional bacon/veggie butty and hot drink. No Blue Hub Cap Awards (for those completing ten Picks) this time, but much chewing of the cud and moans about those unthinking and uncaring people who manage to deposit so much litter in our small area of the AONB. . After sorting, we recycled 474 drinks cans, 449 plastic bottles, 82 glass bottles/jars, and miscellaneous metal objects. .
