The future of two former Canal River Trust litter bins by the river at Leeds Dock has come into question. Leeds City Council are exploring adopting them so they get emptied, it is not happening currently, see photos.

Day two of our riverside clean, Tuesday. Someone got there first, we found 3 Litter Free Leeds purple bags tied up when we got to Old Mill Lane, Hunslet. Five of us started to pick up any litter we could around the Knostrop footbridge. Several passers by stopped to talk, say thanks. One lady mucked in. By the end we’d added 10 more bags to the total making it 13 in all along with a few items too large to bag including a fishing rod! Sadly the graffiti artists let us down. Hidden in the bushes near Richmond Bridge was one large paint tin, a paint tray and six aerosol cans. 😡 On a positive note I only found three bags of dog poo 💩 but that is still three too many. That entire section of the riverbank now looks so much better, I’m sure the nesting swans appreciate what we’ve achieved. Feeling proud and rewarded, thank you Andrea for the treats for Jill and I aftewards 😊 at Greens Grocers.

Does anyone have any thoughts about how to reduce the amount of dog 🐶 poo 💩 litter we find? On our Friday litter pick, and we didn’t travel far, we must have removed double figures of bagged poo! We plan to litter pick along the river again on Tuesday and I’m curious how much more we come across.

FotA joined forces with Hunslet Tennants & Residents for a marathon, all day litter pick in Hunslet on Sunday, apt as it was a ☀️ day. We collected 4 purple bags of #Litter, a duvet, several laughing gas canisters, some damaged furniture, lots of dumped items of clothing, a hub cap, and a few other items too large to up. #LeedsGoesPurple

Two bags of litter and about ten glass bottles cleared largely along the towpath between Pig Love and Crown Point Bridge along the Aire in Leeds. Finished on Clarence Road after a latte courtesy of North Star. It always makes me feel better when someone appreciates what we do for the environment.😉
