Handsworth Helping Hands is a voluntary group committed to improving the quality of life in Handsworth, Birmingham.

This may be by carrying out environmental work such as street clean-ups and clearing and planting public spaces, or by helping residents with jobs they can't or don't have the means to do for themselves. Whenever possible, we recycle materials and clean and rehome items such as furniture and toys that we find on the street, or which are donated to us.

We tidied up the small green space on Hamstead Road, Handsworth, opposite the gates to Handsworth Park. Kemi and youngster Ari joined us for the first time. I stayed on to weed the border we planted 3 or 4 years ago, filling 1 bag of green waste.

We've been cleaning up litter and removing fly-tipping in our area since 2012, but it's the first time I've reported on CleanupUK. Today we were working at Church Vale Triangle, Birchfield, Birmingham. Most of the rubbish came from the long planter on one side of the Triangle, which we first weeded and planted up some years ago. We removed glass & plastic bottles, cans, clothes, litter, 6 large nitrous oxide canisters. Our granddaughter, Hannah, 10 years old, worked for 2.5 hours non-stop! In addition to the 8 bags of rubbish, we also filled 4 bags with green waste from the planter and fallen twigs from the beautiful old tree on theTriangle.
