This is a lanes pick with individuals or families looking after a section of lane, not a city pick involving groups of people. We do it twice a year which is just about enough to keep on top of it.

Huntsham is a tiny village of about 40 houses in mid Devon. Since 2004, Huntsham Society members and our local community (farmers and all) have joined forces twice a year to clean up all the many the lanes for a distance of 2-3 miles from the village; once in March before the verges are hidden in new growth, and once in October when the vegetation has died down and the litter is more visible.
We have about 40 lane sections up to a mile long, each of which are allocated (if possible) to a nearby family to look after. This works well as it only takes half an hour to an hour to do a section. Nearly all the litter we find is food or drink related.
It would be fantastic if all Devon parishes could take up the challenge of keeping their lanes clear of litter.
