The gloves were on today for a spot of gardening with Inspiring Communities Together where we cut back some of last years tall grasses and did a spot of pruning up on Chimney Pot Park. Some local arsonists had left us the remains of a burnt out log pile and a burnt out blue bin which is beginning to increase in frequency much to our dismay. We then did a spot of litter picking along Wall Street and worked our way back to the Langworthy Cornerstone with our haul. 5 bags collected by us and another picked off the Langworthy Estate by one of our regular residents who is doing an amazing job keeping his patch clean. Was such a nice day I then made a start clearing the brambles and the remains of the now very dead bind weed from last year as we're getting the carpark area ready for some planters and new climbers to hide the ugly fence along the back for everyone to enjoy. Hoping for sweet peas, nasturtiums & maybe some Sunflowers this year, all grown from seed. #cleanupsalford #LoveParks #lovewhereyoulive #volunteersmakeadifference

This evening I had a choice of either Netflix & Chill or seeing as it was so dry & mild, a late evening litter pick, so I opted for the latter. Took myself off down South Langworthy Road as I noticed it looked bad when passing on the tram in the week, however, it wasn't as grotty as I thought so managed to get all the way around to Sainsbury's & back. Another 5 bags collected making today's total 8 and was pleased to see the gutters had been swept making the task even easier. #cleanupsalford #LitterHeroes #lovewhereyoulive #volunteersmakeadifference

Thanks to Brian Westley and crew for loaning out our litter pickers to clean up their local neighbourhood in Blackfriars. Here's what they had to say about the day; "Amazing day with over 30 volunteers we collected 110 bags at final count in Blackfriars Trintiy Greengate! Oh and we found a loaded gun- we are now in the MEN!" https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/greater-manchester-news/horror-litter-pickers-find-loaded-31209465

Managed to find time to pick 2 bags of litter earlier on my way down to meet our waste Warriors from Primrose Hill Primary School who collected an additional 7 bags making today's count 9. Also in other news, it was today confirmed 3 new bins have been installed on Regent Rd after myself & Carol Davies made several requests and challenged a recent decision declining them. We shall now celebrate this and might even crack open a small bottle of bubbly I got for my birthday to christen them in style when we next visit lol #cleanupsalford #lovewhereyoulive #LoveYourPlanet #volunteersmakeadifference

I almost took the weekend off from picking litter seeing as my partner in crime Carol Davies had stood me up anyway in preference for her beloved football lol. But after popping down to my local shop and seeing the state of the gutters outside I decided to give Eccles New Rd the once over anyhow or else it will be difficult to clear by next week. It took me 2.5 hours to collect 5 bags which seemed to take forever for some reason. Stopped to photograph more single black bags that have been dumped as I do not move them in hope they get investigated once reported. Someone I saw carrying a large glass table top I thought was going to load it in his van decided to just dump it along the railings and kicked myself for not hanging around to take a photo of him in the act. I also cut open and emptied 2 sandbags that have been hanging around a while creating their usual eyesore and just spread the sand out onto the grass. I also left the pile up of black bags & glass bottles galore left dumped an West Ashton street as its where a group of louts hang around most evenings. It could ideally do with a bin here so will request one and hope it gets approved as the Portuguese shop here called @magazin is both popular and ignorant to clearing up the outside. Was a lovely evening weather wise, got a few thank yous from passers by which helps to know were appreciated! I will soon be doing my late night hauls as soon as the lighter late evenings are upon us but have decided this year for safety reasons I am going to kit myself out with a body cam as last year I had a few close calls with lager louts! #cleanupsalford #lovewhereyoulive #volunteersmakeadifference

Tonight myself & Carol Davies couldn't resist a spot of litter picking in Ordsall whilst we waited for a meeting to discuss the soon to be reformed Friends of Ordsall Park group. Despite the downpour, we hauled in 6.5 bags of litter picked off Phoebe Street & the Green and also cleared a few bits of wood and other random items we found. The front of Morrisons Daily Phoebe St was as filthy as usual so we have left it to try and name and shame the store management who should care more about keeping it clean. #cleanupsalford #lovewhereyoulive #volunteersmakeadifference

Our very own Andy Salter hit the streets again this afternoon with a team of 10 other pickers, 4 being newbies, which he hopes now has some of them hooked on the very rewarding activity of litter picking. They set off from Langworthy Cornerstone along Liverpool Street down to the parade and hauled in 12 bags of grot that would otherwise still be strewn across the pavements, gutters & greenspaces. He also caught up with a keen journalist from Salford Now who helped collect as he chatted to the group and also got chance to catch up with the new CEO of Inspiring Communities Together who are delivering important environmentally led initiatives in the area. Well done all involved and thanks for joining in on what turned out to be a fabulous day weather wise. #cleanupsalford #lovewhereyoulive #volunteersmakeadifference

Today our King Picker Andy Salter collected 6 bags on the way down to Primrose Hill Primary School to meet the Queen of Clean Carol Davies & her super trooper waste warrior team who then hauled in another amazing 14 bags. That's another 20 bags of grot off our cities streets and green spaces that does not belong there, so proud of our warriors, we had tears in our eyes!!! Not only that but a total of 9 other issues were reported to Salford City Council because we care enough to go out and get the job done! 3 Cheers to all involved!!!! #cleanupsalford #LitterHeroes #volunteersmakeadifference #YouthEmpowered

Today started out at 10am with myself & Carol Davies litter picking our usual territory on Eccles New Rd which resulted in 8 bags of litter being collected. We then arrived at Salford Lads' Club for 11am as planned to be greeted by Vanessa Foster & her hubby John who had already made a start and was also joined by my sister Renee Salter & our friend Jane Robertson who crowned me with my Litter Picking King Award of a blinged up picker, golden crown and 50th Birthday badge. Was also joined by Katie Maher & Danielle Salter giving us a team of 8 to attempt the 50 Bag challenge. We cleared loads of bulk items, an area of flytipping not moved despite reporting 4 times and also about 20 Gas cannisters from the Regent Road area including a Grand TOTAL of 56 Bags between us. Both Carol & I got covered in human excrement which had been loaded into large bags in amongst the fly tipping which was just VILE!!! This was all collected from a very small area so lots more work to do on Regent Road so will be putting out an appeal for help from other local groups to lend us a helping hand. Thank you ALL who attended, we totally smashed out target and deserve a pat on the back for the hard graft! #birthdayshenanigans #litterpicking #LoveWhereYouLive #volunteersmakeadifference

Managed to pick 4 bags of grot on the way down to meet Carol Davies & our team of Waste warriors at Primrose Hill Primary School to pick around the School or maybe the park if the rain holds off. Lots of hidden litter festering away behind the overgrowth on Trafford Road so will request the council give it some attention instead of just dumping the green waste they hack back once a year on top of it. Nice day for it, few spots of rain but soon dried up and the sun is again shining 🌞 #cleanupsalford #lovewhereyoulive #volunteersmakeadifference

Today we took out our Waste Warriors to tackle a 'Grot Spot" identified by Carol Davies and was really shocked at the state the green space circled in red has been allowed to get in. We spent an hour pulling out old plastics, a buried half rotted rug and a multitude of dog poo bags from the area. There was also an accumulation of fly tipping we need to report that looks like it's been there for sometime. One of our warriors asked the group a question and wanted to know what the point was in keep litter picking the same areas when all that happens is more litter comes back. We explained that it takes a lot of effort to continuously keep an area clean and even longer to educate the locals into caring more and recognising that it is as volunteers trying to make a difference. We have decided next week we will be asking our warriors to write letters about how they feel about litter picking which we will be sending to the Mayors of Salford and councillors of the area concerned. An amazing 7 bags collected by the team, let's hope those in positions of power do something to support our plight. #cleanupsalford #lovewhereyoulive #volunteering #youthempowerment

Today Andy Salter & Carol Davies joined in with Clean Up Salford Quays to litter pick a section of Broadway near Salford Quays who collectively they hauled in 65 bags of litter. Weather was on our side making it all the more pleasurable and a few beers after the event over at The Dockyard in Media City went down all to easy in the Spring sunshine. Why not join in next week to celebrate Andy's 50th Birthday and help him collect another 50 bags with his friends & family? He will be at Salford Lads' Club from 11am until 2pm where an attempt to clear Regent Road will be attempted. If you have time, please also join him at The Matchstick Man, Salford after for a drink to hopefully celebrate his 50 bag victory on the day. #cleanupsalford #lovewhereyoulive #volunteerwithus

Out and about today with Carol Davies to clear Eccles New Rd, Trafford Rd & the area in-between Tesco Metro & Ordsall Park which was just disgusting. Between us we collected 13 bags of litter and 6 Large gas cannisters. We're now in the pub recovering from the shock we could pick so much from a relatively small area. We will be busy next weekend on Saturday attending the litter pick being organised by Salford & Salford Quays Liberal Democrats and then the week after it's my birthday so we will be tackling Regent Rd. #cleanupsalford #lovewhereyoulive #volunteering

Today I returned to Amersham Park to finish off the section I ran out of time for yesterday then went along some of Langworthy Rd up to Langworthy Cornerstone After a quick check in there for a brew and to cover reception for an hour, I went back out to litter pick on Chimney Pot Park. Did one side of Liverpool Street and both sides of Highfield Rd that faces the park. The overflowing bins have been reported as has the fly tipping I found along the way which I now report directly from the Clean Up Salford page. 8 bags collected in total, Not bad for a day's work of digging out vapes, lighters & bottle tops from the grass!! #cleanupsalford #lovewhereyoulive #volunteersmakeadifference

Today I tackled Amersham Park on my way down to Primrose Hill Primary School and initially collected 3 bags before running out of time. Still a section to clear here which I'll try and get sorted tomorrow and some good news for Neil Joseph - We have had 2 new lamppost bins installed which should help with the litter trail. Got stopped by a lady who gave me some handmade treats in a little bag who said "Here you go kind Sir, Thank you for doing an amazing job". I also got a "God Bless You" off another chap walking past which is always nice to know I am appreciated! I then joined our team of 9 year old Waste Warriors and took them to Ordsall Park to let them run off some steam - We hauled an amazing 8 bags back to the school bin and then gave out this terms "Litter Picker of the Week" certificates to 5 of them and also thanked all participants for their hard work and determination so far. #cleanupsalford #litterpicking #wastewarriors

This morning I set out at 930 to get a head start on Eccles New Rd albeit feeling a bit under the weather. My partner in crime Carol Davies was also feeling rough so we decided to cancel our event planned for Trafford Rd. Seeing as I was out already, I carried on despite a runny nose that wouldn't stop dripping lol and managed to haul in 6 bags. Still had half of the retail side to pick on my way back when disaster struck and my picker handle broke so guess that was the universe telling me to call it a day! Looks like the road sweepers have been out anyway as the gutters were pretty clear for a change and Thurlow Street to my amazement was already clean. Enjoy the rest of your Sunday whatever your doing, quite mild out so why not get out and pick a bag to get some fresh air??? #cleanupsalford #cleanupsunday #litterpicking #lovewhereyoulive

Today I had a taste of warmer, sunnier days to come whilst out for a spot of litter picking to clear the cross Junction at Langworthy Cornerstone. Am pleased to say I only collected 2 bags which would of been more like 1 if someone hadn't of dumped 3 small electrical appliances in White Street. Re reported part of a fridge door the council left behind from yesterday's flytipping and also reported a pile of flytipping that's been dumped up the side of my flat to Salix Homes Roll on Summer when I can do my late evenings, they will soon be here 🌞🌞🌞
