That's another CHOKED FULL brown bin of other people's recycling they are too lazy to deal with themselves being put out this evening. Whilst I get annoyed I can find so much, I equally benefit from the sense of satisfaction it gives me to know I have done the right thing to help love our planet that little bit more. Absurd amount of empty Red Bull as usual, those that drink it don't gain wings, they just become ignorant souls who wont be getting through the pearly gates anytime soon! #ignoranceisnotanexcuse #RecycleResponsibly #volunteersmakeadifference

Before joining our team of 9 year old #wastewarriors this afternoon, I tackled the central reservation along Trafford Rd from Tesco Metro up to the chemist resulting in 2 bags cleared. Then the kids helped pick another 7 making today's total 9 sacks, a burnt out mattress carcass and 2 gas cannisters all left by bins for collection. Felt good to know the green areas I picked are now litter free and will allow some of the perennial wildflowers to spread in time for next year. 💚 Pretty cold by 4pm so instead of our usual walk back home, Carol Davies & I hitched a cheeky lift to save us from getting our feet frozen in this weather. #LitterHeroes #litterpicking #volunteersmakeadifference

Out and about today with the delightful Rosie Leonard who helped me litter pick no less than 8 bags of litter & grot from the surrounding streets of Langworthy Cornerstone and Amersham Park. Since the bin has disappeared from this area, the mysterious cat litter & nappie dumper is choosing to target Brown Street by the looks of things so it's looking a bit of a mess with piles of it I can't clear I'm afraid. Also removed as many frost bitten and dead flowers from the display boxes, hopefully making a bit of room for new seedlings to appear in the spring. Nice and dry day for a change!!! #cleanupsalford #LitterHeroes #litterpicking #lovewhereyoulive #volunteersmakeadifference

Met with Carol Davies at 10am to slowly pick our way down to Ordsall Park where we met up with Brendan Keville from Ordsall Labour to help clean up what we hope will be the last of this years illegal firework frenzy. 12 bags collected in total which were very wet & heavy so it was a god send to find and abandoned trolly to help shift our haul. Goodies drive is looking like a bomb site so we had to leave a lot of strewn litter, carpets, black bags and the 3 ironing boards that have been dumped on the Greenspace in hope Salford City Council will investigate & then clear. Finished about 1.30pm and ended up at the The Matchstick Man, Salford for a bite tobeat and a few swift pints to wash the fish & chips i had down. #LitterHeroes #lovewhereyoulive #volunteersmakeadifference

8 very heavy & soggy bags of litter collected over the weekend from Eccles New Rd, Vere St, Thurlow St & Langworthy Rd areas. Introduced myself to the manager of the new Craft Burger on ENR, firstly to point out after being open 2 days, the area was already blighted by their branded bags and secondly to get them to agree to litter pick at least weekly to help manage the problem. Have offered to provide a picker, gloves and bags to encourage them to do this, let's hope they keep it up! Also got a free coffee off the new barbers as well who are next door, which went down a treat in this damp weather. Now waiting patiently for the severe frost were expecting next week which will hopefully reveal a lot more hidden litter, so if you see me out in wooly hat and long John's lurking in the bushes, you know what im up to hahah #LitterHeroes #volunteersmakeadifference #winteriscoming

Today I met up with our lovely lass Rosie Leonard from Inspiring Communities Together for our usual Wednesday walk around and litter pick of the areas surrounding the Langworthy Cornerstone cleaning hub and we opted for one side of Langworthy Rd as we had noted it was particularly bad. Hauled in 6 bags of grot without covering much distance at all which was disappointing, just look at the pile we found lurking behind a green cabinet as an example of the way local residents & businesses continue to disrespect the area and our 18 months continuous hard work. The gutters outside One Stop Convenience Stores was again thick with squashed cans and rubbish galore, makes me mad it continues to be ignored by the employees & management here so rather than leave yet another negative review and just hope they read it, I am now going to officially complain in writing and see if that works to improve the situation. I am still of the opinion the council need to adopt a new approach to address the lack of cleaning this area gets so I will continue to lobby for improvements at every opportunity I get as we deserve more support from them and the ever absenteeism of councillors who all seem too busy in other wards which just shows you they do not care or perhaps lack the confidence to tackle it? Also picked along some of Liverpool St which to be fair wasn't too bad, purley because I know of at least 2 other pickers who are managing to keep on top of it with me for now. #LitterHeroes #lovewhereyoulive #volunteersmakeadifference

Huge thanks to the girls from the The SG Gang - Buile Hill Sensory Garden Volunteers who today spent over an hour dragging out an absurd amount of litter from the bushes opposite the coop in Ordsall Lane. This area has had 3 visits from our Clean Up Salford, United Utilities & Salford & Salford Quays Liberal Democrats teams so far this year, yet the situation has clearly yet to improve. I will be taking this up with the landowners who should be taking more responsibility as they need to understand images like this are just not acceptable and wonder if their grounds maintenance team needs a kick up the backside to sort it out. 58 Bags collected in total today which again is just not on and will be taking this up personally with both the coop & Salford City Council who should also be playing their part to keep it clean instead of relying on us kind hearted volunteers who seem to be the only ones that truly care. Salford Now Journalists were also at the scene and I will share their report with you all as soon as it is published. Next pick will be at Salford Quays on 15th December, Christmas Jumpers optional, please join us if you can. #LitterHeroes #lovewhereyoulive #volunteersmakeadifference

A productive day, 11 Bags of litter picked with a bit of a focused effort to clear around the overgrown shrubs just off Robert Hall St that are at the entrance to the Library & Ordsall Community Arts Centre Had some help from Christopher Pandolfo who popped out to join me fill those bags and was rather alarmed at the amount of hidden & buried bottles & cans that blight the area which is going to need a few more visits yet before i am happy. Also spent an hour with our Clean Up Salford team of 9 year old #wastewarriors from Primrose Hill Primary School who today all wrote individual letters to 11 local retailers and take aways to ask them to do more and help, not ignore the litter problem. Let's see if any of them reply??? #ignoranceisnotanexcuse #LocalBusiness #lovewhereyoulive #LitterHeroes

8 Bags & 6 NO2 cannisters collected today, mainly from Chimney Pot Park and surrounding streets, Some of Langworthy Rd & the Amersham Park Running Track & seating area. Overflowing bins have been reported as has the flytipping found yet again that just keeps on happening in the same place 🤷♂️🥺🤷♂️ Must be costing us a fortune to keep calling out the council to deal with it and can't help think they see it as an easy route to justify our ever increasing council tax charges, rather than deal with the problem, investigate it properly or even trying to put up fly tipping notices to deter people??? Oh well, another frustrating day, At least it's mild and dry, about the only positive thing I have to say at the moment! #ignoranceisnotanexcuse #daretobedifferent #bethechange #volunteersmakeadifference

Whilst I am both proud of myself & Carol Davies for hauling in a weekend total of 16 bags of litter, I am becoming increasingly angered at the continuous onslaught we have to face on account of the ignorance and disrespect the general public holds with regards to the endemic littering problem, not only in our own city here in Salford but also the rest of the UK. People also fail to acknowledge the significant amount of time we as volunteers are having to invest in reporting other issues, not helped by being given the run around by Salford City Council when it comes to establishing who is responsible for certain areas of land. I really feel underperformance from paid teams is one of the causal roots which goes unchecked due to the autonomous nature of our councils organisational structure with no one really being made accountable for the tasks in hand. No matter who you vote for, the team within never changes and feel it's got to the point they have too many Chiefs & not enough Indians doing the work (proverbially speaking of course). Just my opinion but I'm sure I am not alone in my view point, feel a major shake up is needed instead of the current status quo! Anyway, rant over, I will let everyone get back to being glued to their phones, oblivious to the real problems of the outside world. #cleanupsalford #lovewhereyoulive #volunteersmakeadifference

Not done any picking since Friday due to feeling poorly but had a bash at catching up with some of my patch this afternoon/evening and it never ceases to amaze me the ignorance of local people living near me who don't give two hoots I'm trying to keep the area respectable. First I tackled White Street which looked like a bomb had gone off and collected 2 bags just doing 1 side so had to leave them by a street sign as the bin was too far. Found a bag of money though so that was a brucy bonus that helped take the sting out of the filth and bag after bag of dog muck I had to clean up first to find it! I then ventured down to the still binless Amersham Park & running track and cleared the never ending trail of dog poo bags and also Langworthy footbridge which wasn't too bad, then a little bit of Eccles New Rd on my way home for a brew. Then I cracked on with Langworthy Metrolink & South Langworthy down to Sainsbury's & back. Also hauled a few bits off Dolby Park where I found an abandoned pink lidded bin full of crud, 2 baby gates, a broken ironing board and a hub cap 🤷♂️ Lucky me found a shopping trolly to help haul it all to the bus stop bin which was handy as my energy levels are not yet back to 100% yet. 12 Bags in total, not bad for about 4 hours worth of hard graft. That's it from me, catch up tomorrow after I see what else I can find lurking in all the usual hot spots. P.S Finally managed to find out where one of my beer can tossers live who constantly trashed Amersham Park corner so I will be warning them next time I see them they are on the councils repeat offenders radar!! This evening it was the Weaste end of my area to get blitz and boy I sure had a load of toot people had just strewn all over the Greenspace areas of Eccles New Rd again. 7 Bags of litter and a heap of old wood, doors, metal frames, old blinds, a bin & a large suitcase. That's me done in for another night, Think it's gonna rain but might risk popping out for 'Just One More Bag" hahah I will just see how I feel after a brew 🤷♂️ #cleanupsalford #LitterHeroes #lovewhereyoulive #wastewarriors

This afternoon I had my Green Spaces Salford head on and took myself off down to a corner on Regent Rd that is long overdue a prune and tidy up.👌 Armed with rake, lopers, secateurs and a tree saw, I made short work of claiming back the over grown mess it's been for years. The before & after shots speak for themselves, Who knew we had a brick box hiding under the undergrowth, I guess left over from the old petrol station I think might of been here long time ago? 🤷♂️ Have so far pulled out 2 bags of buried litter and pruned out enough to the railings to be able to at least see the hidden accumulations, most of which I had to leave for picking another day. #lovegreenery #LitterHeroes #volunteersmakeadifference

I went out yesterday evening about 5pm to tackle what I call the footpath from hell that runs between Thurlow St & Montford St. Yet again it was just a disgusting mess, I didn't finish clearing it until 01:45am 😰😰😰 Since I last cleaned it approx 10 weeks ago, I today cleared another 12 Bags of rubbish and recycled 4 making a total of 16. I also cleared a few bulk items of plastic, electric scooter, 2 NOS cannisters, an old bin and broken poles. At one point the heavens opened so I had to shelter under a doorway for a quick smoke and once it stopped, went home for a break and change as I was a bit soaked through to me knickers hahah I made a video of about a 3rd of the section after I cleared the litter to try and show you all the amount of cans I pulled out from the undergrowth I know wasn't there last time. Didn't come out very well but it shows you one of the grot piles I commonly deal with all over my neighbourhood. It seems we have an "Ace" drinker with a serious problem and a householder also dumping piles that have no sign of documents or address which is annoying. I also done a little experiment by counting how many cans and bottles would fit in a bag and got around an average of 125 in each. That means today, I have taken over 500 items home to recycle and also helps highlight the urgent need for a deposit scheme, something I feel will help significantly reduce the volume I am currently dealing with in this and other unadopted areas. Also spent a few hours cutting out some of the overgrowth that has had litter stuck in it for years and eventually left a HUGE pile of litter free green waste I'll let the council deal with when I have finished. I did take a brief look at the Montford St Greenspace that I also clear as often as I can and was very disappointed again to see it in a state. Decided to leave it as I am SUPER low on bags and have no room left in my recycling until Wednesday. Hoping to have this space looking a lot tidier when I next visit, I have some wildflowers to sow, some mud to shift and a few bits of wood need taking home I want to use. Still some embedded items in an old flytip pile that's now a muddy mound overgrown with weeds. Finally cleared my way to get to it but it's proper such so going to go back with more tools to make sure I get it all out! #3amthoughts #cleanupsalford #greenspacesinurbanplaces #LitterHeroes #lovewhereyoulive #wastewarriors #volunteersmakeadifference

Our weekly update from the wonderful waste warriors after school club team in Ordsall, who to our amazement collected 6 very full bags of litter from about 40% of Ordsall Park. Our truly terrific volunteer leaders Andy Salter & Carol Davies also spent another hour picking 3 more bags from the Robert Hall Street area and took time photographing evidence of anti social behaviour like fireworks, burnt out bins and fly tipping which has already been escalated to local councillors, in person, to express our concern. We also reminded our warriors about the harmful effects illegal use of fireworks has on wildlife, pets & elderly people who are all easily scared by the noise. Lastly, we are also thrilled some of our group have already completed a line on their CleanupUK Litter Bingo challenge which means they are learning how to live more sustainable lives at a young age. #cleanupsalford #lovewhereyoulive #wastewarriors #volunteersmakeadifference
