Today was a tough one, which ended up with 17 bags of litter being collected by 3 of us which was cleared from 1 side of Trafford Road, Goodiers Drive and a few other side streets including Eccles New Rd retail side. Not a single area of Greenspace was clean and we eventually gave up on one area that has seen all the hacked back green waste just thrown back in, making it impossible to retrieve the litter & fly tipping left festering underneath it. 5 separate fly tipping incidents to report in a relatively small area further highlights the Ordsall Estate is being over looked in terms of the cleaning it so desperately needs on a regular basis. Thanks to Brendan Keville for joining myself & Carol Davies, it's just a pity no other residents turned up to help which was disheartening to say the least. #cleanupsalford #flytipping #LoveWhereYouLive #volunteersmakeadifference

Out with our team of 9 year old waste warriors on Thursday from Primrose Hill Primary School who litter picked a Greenspace on Phoebe Street resulting in the collection of 6 bags in less than an hour! One lad stayed at the back with me to help retrieve over 20 dog poo bags festering in a bush which was rather brave of him to hold the bag hoop whilst I pulled them all out. Slight change to our schedule as Dr from next week will be out on Tuesdays to tackle the task. So proud of our little team, they are our volunteers of the future and I feel litter pickers will be forever in demand! #cleanupsalford #lovewhereyoulive #Volunteering

Today Part 2 resulted in another 5 bags this evening which gives me a total count for the day of 20! Cleared West Ashton Street, some more of Montford Street and a section on South Langworthy by Howdens that seems to be the most favourite hedge the school kids throw their cans & crisp packets in 😠 Shifted an old pallet and also found a bag containing 3 new pairs of gloves that will come in handy for my litter picking kit so in the wash they have gone just incase they have been peed on by dogs lol #cleanupsalford #lovewhereyoulive #ReduceReuseRecycle

This afternoon I spent 2 hours clearing the notorious Montford Street and hauled in 12 Sacks of litter, 1 Giant sack I also filled worth about another 3 bags and a few other bits like wood & plastics that were all dumped in the small greenspace opposite the GE Robinson Building. I have put up a before and after video and whilst I shouldn't have to be going out to do this, especially as I have previously had this area spotless, I am pleased with the result now it's clean. Over 100 squashed plastic water bottles all crushed the same way makes me think it's the same group returning here on a regular basis but feel powerless to do anything about this as the council or the owners of the land just don't want to know about these problem areas. On a positive, because I have done this section before there was minimum buried waste and was just all laying on and in amongst the leaves making it relatively easy to get to. Still lots more to do on Montford Street but running out of bags, I am now home with brew in hand. Has all been reported to the council for removal, let's just hope they clear it before people add their junk to the pile! #cleanupsalford #lovewhereyoulive #volunteersmakeadifference

Today Carol Davies & I braved the cold windy weather to pick litter from Eccles New Rd & Trafford Rd where we also had a resident called Simon join in to pick an extra bag. We cleared the top section of the central reservation of chewed up litter just left by the council mowers and also took a deep breath to clear a section of Goodiers Drive we asked the council to clear which wasn't done properly. We cleared 7 bags in total off this space alone and 15 bags from the whole area in total. Lots of litter still to pick thanks to both the storm bringing in new rubbish on top of the old stuff outside people's houses they just allow to build up and stare at all day. #cleanupsalford #lovewhereyoulive #volunteering

Today's litter picking antics yielded 11 bags & 6 Large gas cannisters and took me all over the place, starting with a full bag collected on my way to Langworthy Cornerstone Met with Rosie Leonard from Inspiring Communities Together and between us cleared one side of Fitzwarren up to Wall St and then Wall Street itself into Langworthy Rd up to the school bin. Someone else had picked a bag and left it here so that was encouraging to see. This evening I went back out with full intentions of tackling West Ashton Street but by the time I cleared the front of Langworthy Metro and the Greenspace next to it, down some of South Langworthy and along Montford Street I hit a really bad patch here so disgusting it took up all of my time. Might go out and tackle it later or in the morning but for now I am worn out and also annoyed Montford Street has been allowed to get in such a state so need to calm down before tackling it. Got 3 or 4 thank yous today and one chap stopped his car, wound his window down and shouted out "Oi, I keep seeing you out everywhere doing that, you deserve a medal!" Which made me smile, that is until I got to Montford Street hahaha Got a few bits and bobs to report to the help desk tomorrow including a smashed mirror on Chimney Pot Park needs sorting and a section of Wall Street I refuse to pick as it's down to the residents leaving overflowing bins here and I am sick to the back teeth clearing up after them! Also found 92p in coins which means we now have £2 ish for our Clean Up Salford Christmas do which will be upon us in no time I'm sure! #cleanupsalford #LoveWhereYouLive #volunteersmakeadifference

This afternoon it was Vere Streets turn for a litter pick which I have been putting off due to the state of the back of the shops here in vain hope someone else would clean it. It was with no surprises to find it in its usual disgusting mess which I dutifully cleaned as best I could although a lot of it was mushed up food waste I couldn't pick. The businesses here will not get away with it either as I am so fed up with it, I will be yet again leaving them all negative Google reviews to try and motivate them into dealing with it. I'm also concerned about yet more contamination from an unknown source that keeps allowing a large volume of large flakes of what looks like stripped light green paint all over the street. I noticed it last year and dismissed it as a one off, however, it has returned with vengeance so I need to do some detective work to find out who it is so I can report it. Reported some flytipping and a broken street cover and ended up hauling 3 heavy bags off of the area. Lots of cans buried in the mud were picked out and it never ceases to amaze me how quickly they accumulate. Home now for a few brews, might go back out later but then again I might not lol Will just depend how I feel! #cleanupsalford #lovewhereyoulive #volunteersmakeadifference

This morning I joined Brendan Keville, Liz McCoy, 2 journalists from Quays News & also a few other helpers to litter pick around the Islington Park area in Ordsall and on arrival was pleased to see the park area on one side at least was already spotlessly clean. This gave us more time to venture further out and beyond to collect an impressive 17 bags in an hour & a half plus 3 nitro cannisters. Despite the cold, I soon warmed up and the time passed really quickly thanks to Liz who loves a good natter as we go along as I do. Keep any eye out on future dates for this area as it's begining to look a lot nicer thanks to our hard efforts. #cleanupsalford #lovewhereyoulive #volunteerwithus

Today I did a bit of late afternoon picking to finish off the retail side of Eccles New Rd I attempted yesterday. Cleared Thurlow Street as best I could, however some bags for life are still sitting in the bushes I reported 2 weeks ago so I will chase this up on Monday with the council as they need investigating by enforcement in my opinion. Shifted an old broken up wooden draw and what looked like an old fashioned TV Inner screen which was just strewn on the pavement. Noticed a car parked in Thurlow with 3 people in all scoffing takeaway so I made sure I hung around and also took a picture of the license plate to perhaps deter them from dumping their rubbish right where I had just cleaned. Not sure they knew what I was up to but they left without throwing it away which was satisfying to witness as it's a takeaway litter hot spot here at the moment. Got 2 thank yous from passers by and was pleased to see the leaves from under the hedges on Eccles New Rd have been swept clean properly for a change, I assume by a road sweeper who actually went right up close to the edge to get to it! Also hoping to be making arrangements with a local Beavers/Scout leader next week who wants to get their lads out picking weekly so fingers crossed out team of Love Your Planet Salford #wastewarriors is growing in number now word is getting around I can supply litter picking equipment via the CleanupUK cleaning hub based at Langworthy Cornerstone #cleanupsalford #lovewhereyoulive #volunteerwithus

Today was an early bird moment of madness to haul in a quick bag before facing what became a very busy day volunteering at Langworthy Cornerstone I did however manage to finally catch up with one of the local parents, who after dropping off their school kids, chooses to drink cheap lager at around 930 every morning and then just dumps their empty cans on the Amersham Park Green Space without a care in the world, despite them seeing me pick both this area and outside where they live on many many occasions! I wasn't in the mood for polite requests or good manners and just gave them a somewhat abrupt piece of my mind, expletives included, just to let them know I am on to them, know where they live and walked away giving them the finger LOL Not my usual approach but on this occasion, felt it was well warranted! Also not happy someone has kiddy scribbled on one of my bins on Eccles New Rd either so I will deal with that tomorrow when I have the time to do a few others I noticed have also been tagged on South Langworthy Rd again. Last but not least, I have been asked to help take out a group of local Beavers/Scouts who are keen to litter pick and hope this leads to another group of young Love Your Planet Salford #wastewarriors who truly learn to care just like the 9 year old troops we have already enlisted again this year. A busy but rewarding day!!!! #cleanupsalford #LoveWhereYouLive #volunteerwithus

Spent this afternoon in Ordsall, first to spend and hour with our #wastewarriors group at Primrose Hill Primary School where we collected 4 bags off Pheobe Street and fingers crossed have inspired a parent to join in with us next week. I then took myself off to the Ordsall forum meeting to discuss the councils plan to protect greenspaces and how I hope I can now help out with planned improvements seeing as Love Your Planet Salford is almost ready to recruit Greenspace volunteers. I then picked 3 bags of litter on my way home and managed to clear one side of Eccles New Road up to Langworthy Metro link. Some fly tipping found on the green near The Tatton Cafe will also be reported to the help desk first thing in the morning. The video that features here shows some disgraceful scenes playing out in Pheobe Street, in particular the carpark bay outside directly outside Morrisons Daily Phoebe St which despite complaints to their management, both locally & nationally, remains unresolved. Clean Up Salford has escalated this issue to Salford City Council who have already responded and will be sending out someone from the neighbourhoods team to address with all of the stores here. I am also pleased to report I noticed a McDonald's employee litter picking the main carpark in Capital Quay which is something councillor Paul Heilbron has pushed and was good to see. I have left a positive Google review which I hope encourages them further to keep up the good work. #cleanupsalford #lovewhereyoulive #volunteerwithus

Today was #WinningWednesday for Clean Up Salford, Team داڪۆك ــ DAKOK & Inspiring Communities Together who held a community litter pick and collected an impressive 30 bags in an hour and a half thanks to 16 Volunteers. Starting off from Langworthy Cornerstone we spread out all over, although our primary focus was to continue off from last week's cleanup of the Langworthy Carpark area which is an area blighted by constant littering & flytipping. My eternal gratitude to all involved, this will make a big difference to the local area and thank yous from several residents & passers by have already made it well worth it. Let's hope it stays clean for at least a little while 🤞 #cleanupsalford #lovewhereyoulive #volunteersmakeadifference

South Langworthy Rd part 3 this evening and Im pleased to report after collecting another 8 bags of litter, I think I have finally broken the back of the 3 day job, the final total for this section being 14 Bags which is quite frankly just disgusting! Managed to pick both sides clean and the Broadway footpath leading to Sainsbury's local, leaving just the Metro link Platform yet to do. Still some hidden litter that's hard to get to so will have another go in daylight hours. 2 gas cannisters, a pile of road signs just left in the middle of the pavement and a few other bits of a broken microwave casing also shifted. Our Clean Up Salford "Christmas 2025" kitty is officially off to a small start with a total of 32p in shrapnel found over the last few days. If anyone is free to join me tomorrow at 1230, I'll be out again with Inspiring Communities Together & the داڪۆك ــ DAKOK team and where we hope to make more improvements to the Langworthy Cornerstone area. Meet in reception, bring pickers if you have them as our CleanupUK loan kit is all booked out. Hope to see some of you join us tomorrow. #cleanupsalford #LoveWhereYouLive #volunteerwithus

Despite the sub zero temperatures in Salford today, 7 volunteers braved the cold to help me & Rosie Leonard from Inspiring Communities Together collect an impressive 13 bags of litter from the Langworthy area. One chap had travelled from North Wales which is truly amazing and would like to thank the داڪۆك ــ DAKOK team for all their help who have also promised to return another time to lend Clean Up Salford another hand. So inspired by this kind act today, I felt encouraged to pick another 4 bags later in the afternoon which is only thanks to Langworthy Cornerstone for keeping me in supply of fresh brews. I was also able to report 3 separate incidents of fly tipping and reported a broken lampost cover and also a stinky pile of cat litter needing a shovel to clear. Let's hope Salford City Council come to clear this soon to do their bit for our community! #cleanupsalford #dakok_داکۆک #lovewhereyoulive #volunteerwithus

Thought I would nip out this afternoon to pick a few bags just in my local area and surprised myself by getting 4 bags from a small area. Wasn't too cold despite the forecast but thanks to Santa bringing me a fur lined jacket for Crimbo, I was nice and warm. Area covered included Langworthy Metro link, The bottom end of Langworthy Rd and the cross Junction that connects Eccles New Rd. Hoping it's not too cold tomorrow as I plan on tackling South Langworthy as there is lots of hidden litter in the bushes & greenspaces myself & Carol Davies are determined to keep litter free. #cleanupsalford #lovewhereyoulive #volunteerwithus

My first post for 2025 and it's clearly not been anyone's new year resolution to not drop litter as myself & Carol Davies had a hard time prising up all the frozen accumulations, which was tough going in places! The areas we picked were just plain filthy, also with lots of fly tipping occuring we have also duly reported so it's hopefully eventually cleared. Trying to stay positive is becoming a challenge so please excuse me if my posts this year change tone as I am about to get tough on this issue until we see a major improvement from all who should be involved. 12 Bags in total collected taking 2 of us 2 Hours & 40 minutes which is time we give freely because others do not! #ignoranceisnotanexcuse #loudaboutlitter #volunteersmakeadifference

Huge thanks to the Clean Up The Quays team of resident volunteers who gave up their time today.
