🚯Flat Holm Island Society🚯 Last week, the island's warden and volunteers worked hard to complete a beach clean-up as part of The Severn Estuary Spring Clean, which took place between 21st March - 6th April. In total, they filled five bin bags with litter!👏 Here on the island, we strive to help keep our environment clean by regularly clearing the rubbish that gets washed ashore. Well done to Lawrence, Toby and Evan for helping to maintain Flat Holm's shoreline and contributing to the Severn Estuary Partnership’s fantastic initiative. 🚯Friends of Berrow Beach🚯 Thank you to all those who made the effort to attend our special beach clean as part of the Severn Estuary Spring Clean 2025. It was a lovely morning, but there wasn't much to pick up off the beach after our last clean 3 weeks ago - sad for the volunteers today but great news for the environment!! Also, it was lovely to see some new faces today and hope we will see them again for our next clean on 12th April 😊

🚯Olga Shee🚯 A little story from today. It was an unusually warm day, so the kids and I decided to scoot down to the seafront. As we were nearing the sea, we passed a vape shop, and just outside, a lad—couldn’t have been more than 20—stepped out. Within seconds, a vape box slipped from his hand onto the pavement, followed by a bit of plastic packaging. He dropped it quite literally at his own feet, then casually turned the corner and disappeared into a pub. It left me with this really unpleasant feeling. Do some people genuinely believe we’ve got a spare planet tucked away somewhere? We carried on to Marine Lake, where we spotted a litter picker, so we grabbed it and a bag. What was meant to be a quick two-minute tidy turned into a full hour on the promenade—riding, chatting, and picking up rubbish as we went. By the end, I’d forgotten all about that lad. The anger had passed. And watching my children, I felt certain they took something meaningful from today.

🚯Friends of Berrow Beach🚯 Our poo fighters were in action again this morning - thank you, ladies! They concentrated on the boardwalk between the Co-op and the beach and managed to fill up 3 bags full of rubbish. This consisted mainly of tin cans, glass bottles and guess what - more poo bags!! Please, please dog owners try and find a bin or take it home - nature doesn't deserve this!! 🙏

On Tuesday 1st April, I hosted a Keep Britain Tidy #GreatBritishSpringClean event at Broadoak Academy and it was SUPER! 🚯 157 students took part in a voluntary litter pick at Broadoak Academy. This was in celebration of Keep Britain Tidy and their annual 'Great Big School' and 'Great British Spring' clean! Scheduled over 3 different lessons, students worked in groups to retrieve litter from the external perimeter of our school as well as along the edge of the field and around the school grounds. We were very lucky with fabulous weather 🌤️ and found many interesting items along the way such as a smashed-up DELL laptop 💻, a car bumper 🚘, a 'for sale' sign post 🏚️, some underwear 🩲, a golf ball ⛳, a rusty metal bucket 🔩 and a crisp packet dated 2023! Students also found 1 vape alongside hundreds of plastic bottles, food boxes, food wrappers and paper straws. This was a fantastic opportunity for our students to show good citizenship and take pride in their school, the local community and environment. In total, the students collected 46 Keep Britain Tidy bags weighing in at 274.9kg! Thank you to everyone who participated and all staff for their support! Together, we are #KeepingWestonSUPER! #sophiessuperlitterpicking #litterheroes #litterheroesambassador #litterpicking #SUPERcommunity #WeAreCommunity #litterattractslitter #keepbritaintidy #cleanupuk #bethechange #solutionnotpollution #heartofweston #womblescommunity

HUGE thank you to the people (and dog!) who came out this morning for our Surfers Against Sewage #BigSpringClean 💪 Some of the stranger finds included: A set of motorbike mirrors 🏍️ A national health insurance card 🏥 A Coca Cola piggy bank 💸 A pram 🍼 It’s wild to think that some of these items could have been sitting there for months, or even years! Super satisfying to leave this beautiful space so much cleaner than when we found it, and to have grateful passers-by thanking us for our efforts 💙

🚯Libby Watts🚯 Huge Thanks to Our Amazing Litter Pick Volunteers! A lovely afternoon yesterday out and about litter picking in Yatton for the Great British Spring Clean 🌼 We had a small group of adults and children but we had lots of chats about litter and the environment and collected about 6 bags of waste. It doesn't look like a lot but it was all those niggly annoying bits of micro plastics and oh so many cigarette butts! 🤦🏼‍♀️😩 We covered a lot of ground - the precinct, the High Street, both sides of the station + the car park, the Strawberry Line, Chescombe Road, and back to the precinct - clocking up nearly 10,000 steps along the way! The sun came out for us, and it was great to see how clean many areas already were - a real testament to our fantastic community. The Strawberry Line, in particular, was looking great! Thanks to our lovely team of volunteers and also to all the other groups who did litter picks over the weekend including a brilliant litter pick by Cleaner Coastlines: Weston and North Somerset plastic-free campaign 🚮💪🏼 The Great British Spring Clean is running from 21st March to 6th April 2025. You can get free bags from our libraries but litter picking is a year round event and just picking up a few pieces of litter when you're out and about will make the world of difference! And goes without saying - please don't litter, take your waste home or put it in the bin 💚 #keepbritaintidy #GreatBritishSpringClean

What a fantastic community effort at today’s Big Spring Clean in Clarence Park! Really grateful to The Clarence for letting us commandeer one of their tables as our basecamp. A massive THANK YOU to everyone who joined us on such a sunny morning. It was wonderful to meet some new faces and even see families visiting the park jump in to help. The kids learned why picking up litter – and not dropping it – is so important. With the big guns on board like Adopt-a-Street members, Worle Lions Club, Sue from Dreams in Plastic, and Louise from A Ripple In The Sea on board, we tackled a whopping 42.3 kg of litter! Extra special shoutout to Warren Parker-Mills, Tourism Manager from Visit Weston-super-Mare, who must have stormed like a tornado along the Beach Lawns to Grove Park then back through town clearing litter like a seasoned pro! Some quirky finds? Eyelash curlers, a crisp packet from 1996, and a plastic jerry can. And yes, Mary’s magnet-like ability to find the weirdest trash and most alcohol bottles struck again! While food and drink packaging topped the haul, we're hopeful that the new red recycling bags coming soon will stop a fair amount of litter from blowing around. Watch this space for the next mission – tackling a Worle grot spot that the Lions have identified. Thank you all for helping make a difference for our precious environment! 💚🌍✨ #BigSpringClean #MillionMileClean #EndPlasticPollution #PeopleVSPlastic #SurfersAgainstSewage #PlasticFreeCommunities #westonsupermare #superweston #LoveWsM #SevernEstuarySpringClean #GBSpringClean

🚯Carole Stevens🚯 Another litter pick today. This time at the Seemonster Garden. 2 bags full of cans, bottles and paper. I didn’t spot any bins walking round? The central seating area didn’t seem to have any? Maybe I missed them as I was too focused on litter picking. The newly installed seats look fab. Do you know if any bins are going to put in the park? If someone sits in this lovely location to have some lunch/drink and there is a bin by the seat they may possibly put their rubbish in the bin 🚮 🚯🤞 The only bin I saw was the other side of the perimeter fence.
